41 Amazing Game Room Design Ideas

Game rooms are generally areas within a house that are reserved for fun and play. Most of these rooms usually feature a common fixture such as a billiards table, card playing table, or arcade style video games. Many game rooms are used for these types of recreation activities and may also be sports themed viewing rooms. In fact, 80% of all homes that feature a game room, actually use the room to broadcast major sporting events during parties.

There are many things that should be considered when thinking about the décor and overall interior design of a game room. First and foremost it should be determined who will be using the game room. The game rooms target audience should be considered when making overall changes and additions to the décor. For example, if the game room was created for children who reside in the home, then the room will need to have a lighter and more playful feel than if the room is designed for a husband and his friends.

One thing is certain when it comes to game rooms. They are generally high traffic areas wherein food and beverages are common fixtures. When games and food and drink are combined, it can also be assumed that there will be many spills and accidents. Therefore, this thought should be kept in the mind of any one considering the interior design of a game room.

The floor in a game room could already be carpeted, or in some cases may be common cement as many home owners have placed their game rooms in their basement. Either way there is one common fixture that is considered a “must have” for all game rooms – large area rugs that will be placed beneath the pool or card tables. These types of rugs are commonly seen in most game rooms and with good reason. Spills and accidents from fallen food are much easier to clean when they land on an area rug, as opposed to full room carpet or cement flooring. Likewise, area rugs are better on the feet than cement flooring.

A darker colored area rug is the smartest choice for anyone desiring to place one beneath their game rooms center pieces.

Many major area rug manufacturers actually have rugs specifically designed for game rooms. One such rug is rounded and has the overall look and design of a dart board. These types of fun styled rugs add a great deal of character to the game room.

Also, according to the age of the overall users of the room you can choose common party décor or memorabilia to bring even more character and charm to the room. It is more common for homeowners to make their game rooms look like a pub or billiards hall to create an atmosphere of fun and fantasy! In fact, the classic game room look is a tried and true tradition! However, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take risks when designing your own game room. Just keep in mind that it is a high traffic area and you will not want to purchase expensive items to place in a room where pool sticks and darts may be found flying through the air.
